Best Hockey Sticks for Girls 2026/27 — Junior & Teen Guide
Share
Choosing a hockey stick for a girl or young woman is no different to choosing one for any other player — the same principles of size, bow profile and carbon content apply. But there are a few things worth knowing that make the process easier. Here's our guide.
Size First — Always
The most important factor in any junior stick purchase is getting the right length. A stick that's too long or too short will affect technique and make the game harder to learn. Use our hockey stick size guide to find the right length based on height.
As a quick reference:
- Under 8 / up to 4': 28–30 inch
- 8–10 / 4'–4'4": 30–32 inch
- 10–12 / 4'4"–4'8": 32–34 inch
- 12–14 / 4'8"–5'2": 34–36 inch
- 14+ / 5'2"+: 36.5 inch (standard adult)
Beginner Sticks — What to Look For
For a player just starting out, the priority is a stick that's forgiving, durable and the right size. Carbon content matters less at this stage — a lower carbon stick (10–30%) is actually better for beginners because it has more flex and feel, making it easier to develop technique.
The Grays GT3 Junior is our top pick for young beginners — reliable construction, a forgiving mid bow, and excellent value. The Y1 JMB in Pink is another popular choice, combining good playability with a colourway that's proved very popular. For a complete starter setup, the Y1 Junior Starter Bundle includes stick, bag, and accessories in one.

Developing Players — Stepping Up
Once a player has the basics and is playing regularly at club level, it's worth moving to a stick with more carbon (30–60%) and a defined bow profile. At this stage, the bow shape starts to matter:
- Mid bow / all-round: Good for players who want to develop all aspects of their game — passing, hitting and 3D skills.
- Low bow: Better for players who are developing drag flicking and aerial skills.
The Grays GT4 Junior and Grays GT5 Junior are excellent steps up from the GT3 — more carbon, more performance, still junior-specific sizing. For players ready for a low bow, the Y1 JLB 10 is designed specifically for junior players developing drag flicking and aerial skills.
