Mercian Hockey Sticks 2026/27 — Which One Is Right for You?

Mercian is one of the most technically innovative brands in field hockey. Founded in Birmingham and now used at international level across the world, Mercian sticks are built around a clear philosophy: precise bow profiles, high-quality carbon construction, and technology that genuinely improves performance rather than just sounding impressive.

At The Hockey Shed we stock the full Mercian range — from the entry-level Genesis composite sticks through to the elite CK95 Ultimate V2. Whether you’re buying your first stick or upgrading to a high-carbon model, this guide will help you find the right one.

The Three Mercian Ranges

Mercian organises their sticks into three ranges, each targeting a different level of player and construction quality.

Genesis — Beginner to Developing Players (£39–£60)

The Genesis range is Mercian’s entry-level lineup, built for players who are new to the game or developing their skills. Composite construction with low carbon content keeps the feel soft and forgiving, making it easier to trap, pass and dribble without the stick feeling stiff or demanding.

  • Genesis CF5 — 5% carbon inserts, 22mm Pro Bend. The most forgiving stick in the Mercian range. Ideal for complete beginners and younger juniors who want a durable, easy-to-use stick. Available in multiple colourways from £39.
  • Genesis CF15 — 15% carbon, 23.5mm Pro Low Bend at 230mm. A step up in response from the CF5, with a slightly more pronounced bow for players starting to develop their 3D skills. £55.
  • Genesis CF25 — 25% carbon, 23.5mm Pro Low Bend at 230mm. More power and response than the CF15, while still keeping a soft, manageable feel. A strong option for developing club players. £60.

Evolution — Club to Advanced Players (£85–£160)

The Evolution range is where Mercian’s technology really comes into its own. High-quality Toray carbon, Kevlar reinforcement, M-Gel vibration control and nano polymer resin combine to produce sticks that perform at a genuinely high level. The Evolution range is split across two bow profiles — Pro Bend and Ultimate V2 — so choosing the right model starts with choosing the right shape for your game.

Pro Bend — All-Round Low Bow (23.5–24mm @ 230mm)

The Pro Bend is Mercian’s all-round low bow profile. At 23.5–24mm with a 230mm placement, it gives you the benefits of a modern low bow — 3D skills, aerials, lifted passes — without the aggressive feel of the Ultimate V2. It’s a versatile shape that suits midfielders, defenders and all-round players who want a low bow without sacrificing stability when trapping and passing.

  • Evolution CKF65 Pro Bend — 65% carbon, 24mm Pro Bend at 230mm. A strong mid-performance option for experienced club players. M-Gel vibration control and High Friction Finish. £100.
  • Evolution CKF55 Pro Bend — 55% carbon, 24mm Pro Bend at 230mm. Slightly softer feel than the CKF65 with good all-round performance. £123.50.
  • Evolution CKF85 Pro Bend — 85% carbon, 23.5mm Pro Bend. Elite-level stiffness and power transfer in the Pro Bend shape. For advanced players who want maximum performance from an all-round profile. £160.

Ultimate V2 Bend — Specialist Drag Flick Bow (24.5mm @ 200mm)

The Ultimate V2 is Mercian’s most aggressive bow profile — an extreme low bow at 24.5mm with a 200mm placement, designed specifically for drag flicking, aerials and 3D dribbling. If drag flicking is the centrepiece of your game, this is the profile to choose.

  • Evolution CKF35 Ultimate V2 — 35% carbon, 24.5mm Ultimate V2 at 200mm. The most accessible entry point into the Ultimate V2 shape. Good for developing players who want to learn drag flicking with a specialist bow. £85.
  • Evolution CKF55 Extreme Bend — 55% carbon, 24mm Pro Low Bend. A mid-carbon option with strong all-round performance. £110.
  • Evolution CKF75 Ultimate V2 — 75% carbon, 24.5mm Ultimate V2 at 200mm. Our best-selling Mercian stick. High-quality Toray carbon, M-Gel vibration control, Dual-Process Vibration Control and Cold Touch Lacquer. A serious drag-flicking stick at a competitive price. £110.
  • Evolution CKF85 Xtreme Bend — 85% carbon, 24.5mm Xtreme Bend at 200mm. Elite construction in the aggressive bow shape. For advanced players who want maximum power from the Ultimate V2 profile. £160.

DSH Bend — High Bow for Aerials (23mm @ 270mm)

  • Evolution CKF75 DSH Bend — 75% carbon, 23mm DSH Bend at 270mm. A high bow profile designed for players who want a sweeping curve for aerials and lifted skills. £151.

Elite — Advanced to International Players (£175–£180)

The Elite range sits at the top of the Mercian lineup, featuring 95% carbon construction across all models. These are sticks for advanced and elite players who want the best materials and performance Mercian can offer.

  • Elite CF95 Pro Bend — 95% carbon, 23.5mm Pro Bend at 230mm. Elite all-round performance in the Pro Bend shape. £175.
  • Elite CF95 Xtreme Bend — 95% carbon, 24.5mm Xtreme Bend at 200mm. Elite drag-flicking performance. £175.
  • Elite CK95 Ultimate V2 — 95% carbon over a Kevlar skeleton, 24.5mm Ultimate V2 at 200mm. The flagship Mercian stick. Maximum stiffness, power and drag-flick performance. £180.

Mercian Key Technologies Explained

  • Toray Carbon — High-quality Japanese carbon used across the Evolution and Elite ranges. Provides stiffness and power transfer without brittleness when combined with fibreglass and Kevlar.
  • M-Gel Vibration Control — Silicon gel injected into the handle absorbs vibrations from hitting and slapping, giving you more feel and reducing fatigue.
  • High Friction Finish — Silicon polymer lacquer on the face stops the ball spinning on contact and provides a damping effect for better control.
  • Nano Polymer Resin — Creates a flexible but stronger bond between composite layers, increasing stiffness and reducing the risk of delamination.
  • Dual-Process Vibration Control — Piezo-electric fibres convert vibrations into heat for efficient dampening across the stick.
  • Cold Touch Lacquer — Provides a cool feel to the stick’s surface.
